Tainted Memories

For our speculative site specific performance, designed for Shoreditch Town Hall, Nadine Froehlich and I created Tainted Memories, inspired by Angela Carters adaptation of the Legend of Bluebeard,

The Bloody Chamber.

The Performance:

Through these doors we enter Shoreditch Town Hall as a high end Boxing venue and bar in the 1960s. The Kray twins are having a drink in the bar before a boxing game and happen to start talking to an old French lady. The Kray twins are bemused at how Madame Jardinier seems to hold no fear for them. This being a rarity to the gangster princes of London, they ask her to tell them a bit about herself. As they hear the story of her youth and her first marriage, they come to realise that this woman’s life has been tainted with events far worse and far gorier than anything the Krays would ever come to be associated with.
