See. Feel. Move. Repeat.

Sharing serenity through making art.

Through the performance piece See. Feel. Move. Repeat. I explore meditation, repetition and ritual through making art.

The performance is held on a drop in basis and visitors are free to come and go as they please during the 4 hour duration of the piece.

When entering visitors are asked whether they want to participate or observe.

If the choice is observe, the visitors are welcome to sit on beanbags and sofa cushions on the floor and enjoy the space and the relaxing music.

If the choice is participate the visitor is offered to take part in a ritual composed of following a trail around the room and making actions to 3 canvases and to white drawing paper rolled out on a table. After the first completed round I take a Polaroid picture of the visitor, if they are comfortable with it, the visitor can then choose to leave their e-mail address on a list if they want a jpg.copy of the Polaroid. After the visitor has finished the ritual he or she can choose to repeat it if he/she so pleases or simply sit down and relax in the space.

The performance is an attempt to explore how the intended movement of making art can calm us down and put our minds at ease. Ritual and repetition is a large part of meditation and to structure the performance I have a set ritual that the visitors can either choose to participate in or simply watch as I repeat the ritual over at over again.

The intention of this performance is to provide a calm space where people can explore repetition and meditation in art so I don’t mind if people sit down or doze off. The classical piece Spigel Im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt is played on repeat throughout the duration of the performance.
